EA to Create Music/Rhythm Game

Without Red Octane or Harmonix… they are still finding a way to get into the music game…

MTV News has a great article up about Electronic Arts's new music download serivce, EA Trax. Featuring tons of quotes from EA's worldwide executive of music and marketing Steve Schnur, the article gives all info. on Trax you could possibly want: songs previously available only in EA games, original scores from games like Medal of Honor, no DRM restrictions on songs, and an iTunes-inspired pricing scheme -- $.99 per song, $9.99 for a full album.

Now to the really juicy stuff. Hidden at the very end of the article is this oh-so salivatory snippet:

"And for those wondering if EA is going to sit idly by while other companies prove that music-based games like "Guitar Hero" and "Dance Dance Revolution" become roaring successes, there's news coming.

"I've been pushing for a long time to be honest with you," Schnur said. "I think you'll see us breaking into the genre sooner than you think."

A music-based game with the licensing power of Electronic Arts could be really fantastic or really awful. At the very least, it seems that people like Schnur have the passion. However it turns out, you know we'll keep our ears to the ground for you.
